Denver Post, PUBLIC NOTICE USDA FOREST SERVICE White River National Forest Service Opportunity to Comment on US Pro Cycling Challenge Race Special Use Authorization The Forest Supervisor for the White River National Forest is preparing a Decision Memo for a one-time special group event special use authorization that would allow Classic Bicycle Racing, LLC to temporarily use National Forest System (NFS) lands along and adjacent to state and federal highways in Colorado that are to be used by the U.S. Pro Cycling Challenge Race from August 19 to August 25, 2013. This proposed special use authorization will be applicable to four National Forests (the White River, Pike-San Isabel, Medicine Bow-Routt and Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forests) where the race will pass through NFS lands. The NFS locations would include, but are not limited to, Independence Pass (CO Hwy 82); Hoosier Pass (CO Hwy 9); Rabbit Ears Pass (CO Hwy 40); the lower 4 miles on the west end of the Vail Pass Recreation Path adjacent to I-70; and Top of Devil’s Gulch (CO Hwy 43). The authorization would allow temporary facilities and race related use by organizers to provide for public safety and environmental protection that is ancillary to the race itself and would not affect the State and local governmental decisions permitting the bicycle race on public roadways. The authorization would include commercial photography and filming of the event from National Forest lands as the racers pass by and it would include authorization for two vendor vehicles to sell souvenirs and race memorabilia to the public.
