
Denver Post, Notice of Decision Final Environmental Impact Statement for the San Juan National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan USDA Forest Service, Rocky Mountain Region On September 13, 2013, Regional Forester Daniel Jiron approved the Record of Decision for the Final Environmental Impact Statement to the San Juan National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan. The San Juan National Forest covers 1.8 million acres in southwest Colorado. This plan was developed using the U.S. Forest Service’s 1982 planning regulations, in accordance with the transition provisions of the 2012 planning regulations at 36 CFR 219.17(b)(3). This new plan is a revision of the 1983 San Juan National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan, as amended. The Record of Decision, Final Environmental Impact Statement and San Juan National Forest Land and Resource Management Plan are available online at: http://www.fs.usda.gov/main/sanjuan/landmanagement/planning . The Record of Decision approves a Land and Resource Management Plan for the management of the San Juan National Forest over the next 15 years. This plan provides the general direction to guide development of specific projects that will be implemented to achieve the desired conditions expressed in the plan. For this plan decision, the Regional Forester has elected to use the “Optional Procedures Available during the Planning Rule Transition Period” (hereafter called the Optional Appeal Procedures, the former 36 CFR 217 appeal procedures that were in effect prior to November 9, 2000, as accessed through the prior planning regulation transition provisions at 36 CFR 219.35 Appendix A, revised as of July 1, 2010). A written notice of appeal must postmarked or received within 90 days after the date of publication of this legal notice in the newspaper of record (The Denver Post). The appeal must clearly state that it is a Notice of Appeal being filed pursuant to the Optional Appeal Procedures. Appeals must meet the content requirements of Section 9 of the Optional Appeal Procedures, which are available for review at: http://www.fs.fed.us/emc/applit/includes/PlanAppealProceduresDuringTransition.pdf .
